Greetings Youth Ministers,
The Diocese of Southwestern Virginia is hiring a full time Youth Ministry Coordinator. The position is currently open and accepting applications through January 6, 2012. The diocese is comprised of 56 churches ranging from Staunton, Virginia over to Martinsville and down through southwestern Virginia to the border of Tennessee. This position will be based out of the diocesan office in Roanoke, Virginia.
The diocesan youth program is currently strong, vibrant, healthy and well supported by adult volunteers. At the heart of the program is the Youth Ministry Team, which is a unique organizational structure. The youth are the ministers of the programs and serve as the planners and executers of events. Adults support the youth but are trained to serve in the roles of facilitators and behind the scenes support to the YMT members. Given this strong organizational structure built up over the years, the diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator’s position will transition with this hiring to one of coordinating the existing YMT and diocesan youth events while building new connections within the diocese. The vision is for the Coordinator to support parishes and convocations to build youth programs that feed into and benefit from the strength of the current diocesan youth ministry.
Applicants should have experience in working with Christian youth programs, exercise his/her imagination and creativity as a gift of the Holy Spirit, have an easy rapport with youth and adults, excel in organizational structure and visioning, and be capable of handling the stresses inherent to a diocesan staff at the calling of a new bishop. A sense of humor and the gift of laughter will be well met in this position.
